*Bent Out of Shape.

***
This past weekend was super hectic...lots of ups and downs...but I'm alive and well...

...bent but not broken...

Hmm, some daily pretty....??  :)

*Style File?

***
As opposed to the 'Target_:' posts, which focus on celebrity style, both casual and red carpet, as a source of inspiration, models may not necessarily have the most fashion-forward personal style, and thus the 'Style File' posts will be aimed more at their ferocious, emotion-evoking, professional work...
...like this...

:)

I have always found it interesting that sometimes, those working within the fashion industry may not necessarily be the most stylish on their off days, often preferring 'function' [and comfort] to 'fashion.'

Take Kate Moss [although regarded by some as a Boho-chic icon] for example...
...but, I guess we all need a little breather every once in a while....
*insert breather here*

...oh, but when they work, they WERQ!
A classic beauty, with a gritty edge to it, Ms. Moss was one of the top models of the 90s, starting the model trend which became known as 'heroin-chic.'
She marked the beginning of a shift in the modelling world to more skinny and waif type models, after the decade where models were powerful and strong women represented by favorites like Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer.

...stunning girl. Is it any wonder why she is deserving of the title 'supermodel?'

*refer to pictures*

Didn't think so! :)

*Target_: Cheryl Cole

***
After doing that 'Alexa Chung' post I started thinking about other fashion icons, particularly Brits, whose styles I am inspired by...
Naturally, Cheryl Cole came to mind...

She's a gorgeous gal...who had it a bit rough lately, relationship wise and whatnot, but career-wise she is still as big as ever!

Somewhat comparable to Vicky Becks, Cheryl also comes from a popular girl group, married [and subsequently divorced] a football [soccer to you Americans] star, and has climbed the fashion ladder to earn the well deserved title of 'style icon'...
As you can very well see, she has a diverse range of looks, easily transitioning between glamorous and demure to edgy, and what really impresses me, is that she really seems to understand the importance of styling *takes notes*.
b&w... #chic #striking
I love that about her really, the fact that she really doesn't mind slapping on a pair of pants [and all my friends know I love a girl in pants] and messing it up a bit...
...I think that red's her color... #stunning
And while fashion may not necessarily be as 'fun' for her as it is for others, she definitely brings a sense of confidence to whatever she wears...and that's all that matters really, no?

*Fashion Week.

***
sooo...maybe I haven't exactly been the most up to date fashion blogger in the world... [it's pretty hard running a solo blog and being a full time student you know!]...so I haven't really made the time to blog about one of the most important events in the fashion world.... New York Fashion Week SS13. [which ended yesterday] *womp on me*
In Layman's terms, New York Fashion Week or NYFW is, I guess, like the fashion industry's Christmas.

*case in point*

Christmas: everyone gathers around a fireplace and chatters on about what they've been up to...
Fashion Week: designers gather around a runway and present what they've been up to....

Christmas: presents, gifts and goodies!
Fashion Week: swag/promo bags, gifts and goodies!

Christmas: drunk uncles...
Fashion Week: drunk celebrities...

seeeeee?

The only differences would be that, well, there are two New York Fashion Weeks a year, one in the Fall [i.e. now] and one in the Spring. And well, all the major Fashion Weeks [New York, London, Paris, Milan] lead into another, culminating into seemingly a Fashion Month. *exciting*

What I love about it though, is that the locations become almost like a Mecca for fashion enthusiasts everywhere..During fashion week, the street style of all those in and around the major events greatly improves in style. People get more creative, take more risks and it is then when you can really see how diverse personal style can be.... Everyone looks so put together....

Skip on over to Fashionologie and look at the huge and wonderfully compiled slideshow of fashion week attendees all dolled up, showcasing their personalities through their clothing and get inspired to do the same!

I could ramble on about fashion week; the differences between the fashion weeks...the significance of them...trends etc...but maybe I'll leave that for another post...

...at least I'm on time for London Fashion Week... >_<

*Daily Pretty #1

*Comments. Questions. Concerns.

 ***
Seeing as how I am relatively new to blogging...and I am well aware that no one really wants to religiously read about one college student's search in finding inspiration... [don't worry I'm not offended..haha..] I am taking suggestions on how to make the blog more appealing...

I am all for feedback, once it lies within the constructive realm....[emphasis on constructive] and I will try my utter hardest to satisfy everyone who responds...
So...what do you want to hear about? Should I have polls? More pictures, less words? [Less pictures, more words?]

Also, I'm toying with the idea of having a "Daily Pretty"...or something like that...something beautiful to start your day off...maybe a gorgeous fashion picture...or even an inspirational quote that strikes a chord within me..

I'm sure some of you out there also need a daily shot of inspiration before pounding the pavement and tackling the world... I know I do....

*Union Jacked.

***
Google imaging pictures for my last post about the Olympics, I was amazed at how creative the British were when it came to showing their patriotism and support for 'Team GB.'
Everyone was flaunting their Union Jack colors and clothing...with some really getting into the spirit of the games.

And while most were rushing to stores buying 'London 2012' souvenirs, I thought, "Why not get something a little more timeless?"
As I have so far grown to discover, the Union Jack flag isn't as nationally revered as say, the U.S. flag. While it isn't to say that it doesn't promote a sense patriotism, it just doesn't hold the same symbolism as a national flag would elsewhere. As one of my professors said, "...One wouldn't be legally fined for burning a flag here...why would one buy one to burn in the first place??"...and went on to say that you could find it imprinted on any and everything, ranging "...from tea towels to thongs," [quite unlike the U.S. flag].

A quick image search for Union Jack clothing yielded an array of results, from chic to costumey [with only the chic highlighted in the collages....*of course*].
I am in love with these pieces, though obviously not all together. I think that they would make for great mix-and-match statement pieces guaranteed to turn a few heads.
Additionally, I think that these are so easily integrated into anyone's wardrobe, whatever your aesthetic...be it vintage and classic...or rock-n-roll edgy...to preppy and chic...

...I would love, love, LOVE to have a piece of Union Jack clothing....

...plus a little pattern/print/color never hurt anyone... >_<

*clash of the titans.

***
Definitely one of the most exciting things to occur in England while I've been here so far has been the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics...and with the latter ending quite recently...a post was definitely necessary.
While sports haven't exactly been a major passion of mine [although up to a few years ago some could say that I was a lot more athletic than now O.o] the games have been about far more than athleticism.
In fact, many Brits have marveled at the buzz that now exists amongst themselves, having such a global spotlight on their country.
And if that sense of patriotism isn't enough to provoke inspiration...maybe the determination and fortitude of the athletes is!

Imagine priming yourself for years upon end, putting in all those long hours and hard work...for it to ultimately pay off....for your efforts to be recognized. Must be both an overwhelming and rewarding feeling...

...one that I'm sure we all strive for.

*Bad Blogger.

***

soooo...it's the second time I haven't blogged in a while...but this time with good reason..Although partially due to laziness and time constraints, I also have spent a great deal of the past month, unsettled, and traveling all over England.

Thus, I haven't had the most time, or in some cases internet, to sit and construct a post. [also..I need to learn to blog more efficiently, making shorter but more frequent posts...almost like how tweeting has become second nature to me.]

With this blog, I am really trying to keep it from being too personal...as, although I am spending a semester abroad in the gorgeous English countryside and experiencing so many wonderful things, I hope to use this more as an inspiration guide...highlighting to all--especially artists, whether his tools be paint or voice or fabric, that inspiration is to be found everywhere.

So, even though I am a little overwhelmed with school work at the moment...I am going to make a conscious effort to blog more often.

*pinky promise*

Short enough?
