*oh so coco... #modelmonday

***
Hello darlings,

Today's #modelmonday post features an editorial from absolute fave of mine, none other than Coco Rocha!

This Canadian beauty, known for her extreme posing skills, has such an expansive career, from being discovered at an Irish tap dancing competition, to being dubbed by Vogue as part of the new crop of supermodels, she certainly has come a long way.

So, as you struggle out of bed this Monday morning, and need the inspiration to get you through the week, look at these absolutely ferocious [in a tribal way] images from Ms. Coco.

Surprise!

It's me again! Took another brief hiatus, but now I'm back to provide you with all your fashion needs!

It's been a hectic past two weeks and, between applications and paperwork and baby-showers (oh my!), my creative energies have unfortunately been elsewhere.

But, no fear! I'm all here now...both with you and my internship (which is winding down now).

...and by winding down, I mean lots of computer work..which everyone knows isn't my favorite...

Alas, it must be done!

So, while I 'enjoy' some technology...you enjoy some Karlie and Daft Punk...which is sort of related right?? Cause they have that 'Technologic' song....

...no?

Fierce model. Funky musicians. That should be enough to tide you over...

Till then...have a great day kiddies!

*the last of the couture.

***
Hi darlings,

Here's the last of my fave shows from Paris Fashion Week held two weeks ago....

...and naturally I saved the most blinged out and glamorous ones for last!

These absolutely breathtaking gowns are the creation of two amazingly talented coutouriers who ironically enough are neither Parisian, but Lebanese.

Any thoughts on who I could mean?

None other than Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad of course!...Kings of couture!

While I have had my eye on Elie Saab's designs for a while [his name becoming almost synonymous with red carpet], Zuhair Murad, who is somewhat of a recent discovery of mine, seems to be doing amazingly detailed work on par with that of Mr. Saab.

So, grab a bowl of popcorn, cosy up with your computer screen and open that savings account...cause I guarantee you'll want AT LEAST one of these jaw-droppers.

Enjoy the pretty kiddies!
Murad's "darkly sensual" embroidered creations.
Saab's "royally opulent gowns"...fashioned after crown jewels; emeralds, sapphires and rubies
...featuring simple, soft silhouettes to pull focus onto the embroidery and bead-work.
Oh and before I forget...

...Elie Saab's showstopping finale piece...
..couture bridal gown with bridesmaids in tow.
See the rest of the collections here.

...now you have something to work towards!

Be inspired! Be productive!

*dress you up [in my love]

***
Morning lovelies!

After yesterday's mega-post about Paris,

a) I missed Paris
b) I decided to give you more couture!
Today's pretty comes from none other than Roman couturier Giambattista Valli's Fall/Winter 2013 showing last week in Paris.
Inspired by porcelain china, Valli is quoted as saying, "flowers and colors are what women want from me," and he certainly gave just that! It's a shame that the pictures do not aptly showcase the craftsmanship and delicate details that have gone into these dresses, each having layers upon layers of silk flowers and embroidery.

Nothing to describe this collection as except pretty...[or sweet...or beautiful], I wonder which celebrities will be lining up to snag a dress for an upcoming appearance.

Enjoy!

*couture collections

***
With the closing of Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013 last week, I thought that I, as a blogger [as many do many others], have a duty to cover, give my opinion on, or at least acknowledge the occurence of one of the 'Big Four' Fashion Weeks...
Of these major Fashion Weeks, Paris Fashion Week, with all it's haute couture shows, is especially looked forward to, as it is a major stage for Parisian couturiers to showcase their talent.

Dozens upon dozens of edgy, avant-garde, and just plain gorgeously detailed and meticulously handcrafted clothes glide down runways, depicting designers' visions and painting fashionable fantasies for those in attendance.

And, with gorgeous one-of-a-kind pieces, lavishly hand-tailored by the best ateliers [workshops] in the business, it is no wonder why a number of celebrities attend these shows to scope out their next 'Award Season' looks.

I'm not really going to review the collections as much, cause I think that they're all beautifully made clothes and, even if a collection does not align with my aesthetic, one cannot deny the true skill and craftsmanship in designing true haute couture.

Instead, I'll post a few of my favorite looks, from a few of my favorite shows! Deal?

Starting with....

Dior!
Gorgeous clothes; gorgeous color story....and there's those stripes again!

A more modern take on couture, designer Raf Simons, who's inspiration was 'freedom' noted that, "if we don't adapt to what women in society are now about, couture might disappear..."

See the rest of the collection here!

A salute to modern freeness!

Enjoy the pretty kiddies...more to come!

Back for more pretty?

If you insist...
Dress by Thom Browne; SS13.
Here's Czech supermodel, and former VS Angel, Karolina Kurkova on the June 2013 cover of Vogue Ukraine.

And, cause I'm missing the beach....her fun-in-the-sun, mermaid inspired, summer editorial.
Gorgeous, no?

Hmm...makes me wish I was by the ocean running around in really expensive clothes...

Sigh. One can only dream.

“At the beach, life is different. Time doesn't move hour to hour but mood to moment. We live by the currents, plan by the tides, and follow the sun.” ― Unknown

“The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choice-less as a beach - waiting for a gift from the sea.” ― Anne Morrow Lindbergh

To myself I am only a child playing on the beach, while vast oceans of truth lie undiscovered before me.” ―

***
Eek could it be?

It's a bird; it's a plane...it's two posts in one day!

I know, I know...it's a surprise...buttttttt I stumbled across this ferocious short film on Nowness.com featuring Puerto Rican supermodel Joan Smalls that's sending the fashion world into a spin and HAD to feature it.

With all the hype surrounding this new Superman movie, this is such an appropriate and buzz worthy little project undertaken by director Barnaby Roper, with clothing from Rodarte and Balmain, jewellery by Eddie Borgo and styled wonderfully by Keegan Singh.

*caution: The imagery is fast and not suitable for those with dizziness or prone to epilepsy.

*gotta stick it out

***
Good morning kiddies!

It's certainly been a while, hasn't it?

The past few weeks have just been uber hectic for me; last week being Spring Break and the week before that, the equally crazy [but for different reasons] midterm week.

Although I didn't do much exciting things over my break, I did sleep quite a bit [which is always a plus] and watch a lot of 'Say Yes to The Dress.'

...made me think about commitments...

...and a large one I have is this blog! [and to you too of course!] so I am definitely going to push myself to churn out all those posts-in-waiting I have lined up...

But for now...have some pretty! Bet you missed it!

“Anyone can dabble, but once you've made that commitment, your blood has that particular thing in it, and it's very hard for people to stop you.”- Bill Cosby.

"Commitment unlocks the doors of imagination, allows vision, and gives us the "right stuff" to turn our dreams into reality.”- James Womack

“There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstance permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”- Art Turock

*and the award goes to...

***
me!...for having a grand total of ONE blog post for the month of February. #grr

I won't linger on about my self-loathing and procrastination now and just skip to the pretty...

The Oscars were last night and, since I didn't post about the Golden Globes [#missedopportunity], I couldn't call myself a serious fashion blogger if I missed this one...

Although I didn't watch the show, from the pics I gathered this morning, the red carpet looked pretty fab. Most girls were dressed in lavish gowns, couture pieces and sparkling jewellery, and the guys in well-fitted suits. Pretty classy affair no? Haha.

In fact, my top five female looks for the night [in no particular order] were:
Clockwise L-R: Stacy Keibler, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Charlize Theron
...with close runners-up..
Clockwise L-R: Maria Menounos, Kelly Osbourne, Amanda Seyfried, Kristin Chenoweth, Amy Adams
Eek! What a stunning set of gowns... #fabricfiesta

Even the after-party outfits were glam; one of my favs being Lily Collin's sleek little number...
#iwant #blindedbysequins

...along with other honorable mentions...
Clockwise L-R: Nina Dobrev, Jennifer Lawrence, Ginnifer Goodwin, Solange Knowles, Elizabeth Banks
Colorful little group no?

Even the Kluminator showed up looking like an Oscar in true Heidi-plunging-neckline-cleave-showing-fashion...
And then this happened... *record scratch*
You can pick your jaws up off the floor now...but yes, that's Heidi. and Naomi. lip locked. *blink blink*

I reserve further comment while I go shop around for my Oscar 2014 look...I'll also be taking applications for my hair and makeup team in the comment box below :)

It will happen one day kiddies...mark my words...

*fabulous London.

***
“If London is a watercolor, New York is an oil painting.” ― Peter Shaffer
[...different; not better, not worse]

The time has come for me to say goodbye to this wonderful country and return to the States.

But don't worry kiddies, I'll still be posting about the numerous English models and fashion icons that I haven't gotten to and my experiences in the UK and over on the continent! [still didn't do a post about Paris...and now I have to do one about Belgium!! #fallingbehind]

How about a 'see-you-soon' present to cheer myself you up?
'Fabulous London.' ft. Bonnie Chen. Harper's Bazaar China. July 2012.
Just think, while I'm stuffing choccies in my carry-on and getting searched at customs, you get to enjoy some fun and ferocious 'English' pretty...

...sigh..I miss it already.

Life is a journey, and I must remember that it may be one that I am not entirely in control of; just gotta enjoy whatever experiences are thrown at me, ya dig?

Am I sad that I'm leaving? Yes. But, I'm also excited to move on and continue growing and anxious for what experiences 2013 will bring. And of course I'll definitely be back...[maybe sooner than I know?? hehe.]

So, goodbye to 'The Swinging City' and hello to 'The Big Apple.'

Wish me luck kiddies!

*keeping it clean

***
Ok...so I've been a bad blogger again. Hope Santa doesn't put me on his naughty list for neglecting my wonderful readers!

With Christmas a mere 5 days away, I have been so busy with shopping, cleaning and decorating...and it doesn't look like it's going to end soon.

All I want for Christmas is a personal assistant...seriously...

...that way, I could look like this while doing chores...

*Fall 2012 Trend Alert: Orient Express

***
Sigh. Definitely been a while since I featured a "Trend" post on the blog and I figured might as well get them done while these trends are well, still trends! Haha.

Today's agenda: Oriental!
2012 has so far seen a massive interest in the East, predominantly with the Asian nations. While it may be because China is set to become the dominant global power in the next few years, or it may just have to do with globalization, or even the amazingly vivid inspiration provided by such a rich and colorful culture....whatever the reason, the exquisite luxury of the orient is back!
Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten, Zac Posen and Osman are just some of the designers using floral fabrics in their kimono and cheongsam inspired pieces.
close-up of a Dries Van Noten F/W 2012 piece
 Take a look!

Think it's hard to pull off? Celebs do it without looking too literal....[with the exception of Katy Perry]
Top Row L-R: Fan BingBing, Elisa Sednaoui, Katy Perry, Audrey Tatou, Dakota Fanning
Bottom Row L-R: Olivia Palermo, Katy Perry, Dita Von Tesse, Liya Kebede, Katy Perry

Paired with basics, these pieces can add pop to any outfit. Timeless and chic with a modern interpretation. Who wouldn't want to dress like that?

After all, isn't the modern woman a woman of the world?

*Style File: Karen Elson

***
Been a while since I did a 'Style File' post...soooo yay! More British models!
Today's focus is on Karen Elson, British model-turned-singer extraordinaire.

Known for:
*fiery red hair [dyed]
*minimal, shaved eyebrows
*shooting the cover of Italian Vogue w/ Steven Meisel on 18th birthday.
*walking Marc Jacobs 2006 F/W runway while pregnant
*marrying [although recently divorcing] Jack White of the White Stripes in a shaman officiated wedding in a canoe up the Amazon [with Meg White, Jack's ex-wife, as her maid-of-honor]
After a rough entry into the fashion world, being turned down by a number of jobs, most times without representation, Elson's edgy look quickly became popular in the Asian markets, which then in turn propelled her to global success. Definitely a testament as to how hard and non-linear the industry is!

She's a crazy girl with a striking look. Unlike Kate and Naomi, who probably do a lot more polished shoots, Ms. Elson definitely puts some weird and quirky fun into hers.
Should I let the pictures do the talking?
Needless to say, she's got a lot of shots that I really like...
Still lots of glam, no?

Haha. As close to a 'file' as you can get, ey? Short, sweet and lots of pictures.

*Mutual Suffering.

***
Even though I promised you wouldn't have to suffer with me through my coursework...I clearly lied! Lol
I mean, aren't promises meant to be broken??

Just kidding... your suffering is mild...as it's just a day filled with paper inspired posts! [while I try to get through my own papers...grr]

Enjoy!

"Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart." -William Wordsworth.
"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web." - Pablo Picasso.
